\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIf an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; think what a good prevention screen is worth.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA good screen starts with evaluating healthy behavior and health risk factors. Both your behavior (lifestyle and habits) and health risk factors affect your chances of developing a serious disease. Many of the most serious health problems can be prevented or detected early with screenings and then treated effectively.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tScreenings are a very important part of preventive care. A screening, or screening test, is a simple test for the early detection of a disease before you have any symptoms. Your health risk factors change as you go through life. Therefore, some screenings are done as a baseline and show measures that are normal for you at that age. Later screenings are then compared to the baseline so changes can be detected. Also, having screenings can help you learn the early symptoms or warning signs of disease.\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA health risk factor is anything that increases your chances of getting a disease. A health risk factor can be your age, sex, lifestyle, personal health history, or family health history. If you have certain risk factors you are considered 'at high risk.' For example, if you have a family history of heart disease, you are considered at high risk for heart disease. However, being at high risk does not mean that you are sure to develop a disease, just at 'not at high risk' does not mean you won't develop a disease. Because of the relationship between risk factors and disease, risk factors are used to determine how often you should receive preventive care services. Preventive screening has proven value in the prevention and early detection of many diseases. These services include screenings for cancer, stroke and heart diseases. You may need preventive screening services every year, or only every 3 to 5 years:\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
